Joys of the Heart

I've worked hard all week on various projects, so even though the house needed cleaning I took a break on Saturday to enjoy the day and go biking. After arguing for 30 minutes with my 11-year-old about wearing the padded bike shorts and exercise clothes instead of school clothes, we left the house with the whimpering child dressed appropriately. (I was not above dressing her myself at that point and I think she knew that!)

Unsure of what her mood might be, we stll ventured to a favorite trail that has some pretty difficult climbs. She only complained a little when we arrived, but got on her bike and took off. Within 10 minutes, all of the stress of the morning evaporated as we scooted through the shady paths.

I must admit that I've struggled to find an exercise that I will stick with until I thought back to what I enjoyed doing as a child. I used to ride my bike at my grandparents' house all summer long. Now I'm trying to get my daughter to enjoy it as much as I do. She's getting there.

I would call the trek successful. We biked, chatted, watched turtles, fish and deer, got some good exercise, breathed fresh air and felt accomplished after completing almost 7 miles.

Ecclesiastes 5:19-20 As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, and given him power to eat of it, to receive his heritage and rejoice in his labor - this is the gift of God. For he will not dwell unduly on the days of his life, because God keeps him busy with the joy of his heart.
