Graduation

Yesterday, my firstborn graduated from high school. It was quite a day since he was part of the first graduating class of a new high school, as well as the valedictorian. I was nervous about his speech because I never got to hear it in advance. However, I had nothing to be concerned about. He did a great job and looked very comfortable up on stage. I am so proud of all he has accomplished!

And now the next chapter of his life begins with college and a career. He still wants to be a pilot and is working toward that goal. He amazes me with his focus and drive. Graduation is not an end, but a beginning for the rest of his life. Here is my prayer for him.

Proverbs 9:9-11 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you.

How was your week?

Every Sunday morning when we break up into small groups in my Bible Fellowship class, I'm asked, "How was your week?" I should expect it, plan for it, and be ready with a response because replying, "Fine." just doesn't cut it. Inevitably it's followed with, "So tell me what happened." Normally I can recall what I did, even if I have no recollection of what I ate yesterday. However today, I just sat there like a guppy, unable to pull a simple sentence out of my head. :D

Am I forgetful? Maybe. I have been known to look at a calendar to see what I had scheduled so I could recall what I did during the week. However this past week I had nothing written on my calendar. I know I was busy, but it would take some effort to reconstruct my week. I always seem to know what's ahead in my schedule. Perhaps I just like to live in the moment and look forward. I would probably do me good to focus a little further forward than just the next week.

II Peter 3:13-14 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless:

Mother's Day

This has been an exceptionally tough week at work and I am very thankful for my Mom who stepped up to help me out all week! She shuttled my daughter to and from school most of the week. She and Daddy took me out to lunch on Friday. Even when I had to work on Saturday, she performed a miracle by getting my daughter to help her clean our house, do laundry, put away clothes and change the beds. What a blessing to not have to "be the mom" this week! My mom is such a Supermom that it's easy to follow what God tells us to do!

Leviticus 19:3 Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father, and keep My Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.

ACS Relay for Life

Since 2004, I've been a part of my school's Relay for Life Team. I try to raise money each year for cancer research. Friday night I walked with my team. It's evolved over the years, as there is only one member that continues as I have. We were talking about how the team and the walk have changed over the past 15 years. Still, we are fighting for the same goal - to rid the world of cancer. Will it happen? No, because we live in a fallen world. However, to give hope and a chance for someone to have a good life is always my goal.

Galatians 5:13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty [freedom]; only do not use liberty [freedom] as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
